Advanced courses

In the advanced courses you will refine your speaking, listening, reading and writing skills in various challenging situations.

 

At the end of the advanced courses you will be at level B1 of the CEFR and be able to quickly construct diverse sentences and say things in different ways. After completing the advanced course you can earn a certificate.

 

The advanced level consists of four courses: Advanced 1, 2, 3 and 4. Why 4?

Advanced 1

The objectives

In this course you will learn: reflexive verbs, advanced sentence structures (indirecte vraagzinnen met ‘of’ en met een vraagwoord), advanced adjective conjugation, practice fluency with the different verb times (presens, perfectum, imperfectum).

At the end of the course, you can describe past experiences, talk about your future plans, talk about your lifestyle, compare old and new habits, and write a detailed text about someone’s life.

Prior knowledge

To join Advanced 1 you should have a Dutch level comparable to A2 of the CEFR.

Materials

In the Advanced 1 course we complete chapters 1 to 4 in the book 'Contact! Nieuw 3'.

Advanced 2

The objectives

In this course you will learn: advanced sentence structures (indirecte vraagzinnen met ‘of’, indirecte vraagzinnen met een vraagwoord, bijzin voor de hoofdzin, als-dan-zinnen), the different uses of zullen, and practice fluency in speech.

At the end of the course, you can have a formal job interview, give and understand instructions and advice, explain your job responsibilities, and train a new colleague.

Prior knowledge

To join Advanced 2, you should have a Dutch level comparable to A2 of the CEFR, plus know the objectives of Advanced 1.

Materials

In the Advanced 2 course we complete chapters 5 to 8 in the book 'Contact! Nieuw 3'.

Advanced 3

The objectives

In this course you will learn: the position of er, learn about de or het, advanced adjectives, comparatives and superlatives (with or without -e), understanding the passive voice (passivum), advanced sentence structures (sentences with dat/of, and indirect constructions with vraagwoorden).

At the end of the course, you can give your opinion about cities and countries, understand important information of municipalities, understand public announcements, recognize and talk about cause and effect, explain difficult situations, and ask for information.

Prior knowledge

To join Advanced 3, you should have a Dutch level comparable to A2 of the CEFR​, plus know the objectives of Advanced 1+2.

Materials

In the Advanced 3 course we complete chapters 9 to 12 in the book 'Contact! Nieuw 3'.

Advanced 4

The objectives

In this course you will learn: advanced sentence structures (relatieve bijzinnen), structure your story, use zijn as an auxiliary verb (hulp verbum) in the perfect tense (perfectum), and to apply all previously learned grammar in speech.

At the end of the course, you can quickly distinguish facts from opinions in texts, describe your experiences in a country, compare information, determine the subject of long news items, understand simple statistical information, describe simple statistical figures, explain the essence in simple statistical figures, be part in a discussion, and perform a monologue.

To join Advanced 4, you should have a Dutch level comparable to A2 of the CEFR​, plus know the objectives of Advanced 1+2+3.

Practical information

Where?

Dutch Academy offers online and in-person classes. Go to current classes​ to check dates, times and the location (online or in-person) of the upcoming courses.

​

When?

Please check the page current classes. Classes will start with a minimum of 4 students.

If you are interested in a level but it is not listed in current classes, please leave your information here and with enough students for a course, the start date will be chosen together.

 

If you can’t make it to a lesson, the lesson will be recorded so you don’t have to miss anything.

 

The costs

The lesson fee for the online courses is $300+tax.

All online courses consist of 10 lessons of 1.5 hours.  

​

The lesson fee for the in-person course is $350+tax.

All in-person courses consist of 8 lessons of 2 hours. 

​

The materials 

During the advanced courses, the book 'Contact! Nieuw 3' is used with other additional materials.

 

How to sign up?

Fill out the registration form. After completing the form, you will receive an invoice with payment information. Registration is complete after receiving the payment.

Take an exam

After completing the advanced courses, you can take an exam and earn a certificate or continue with private lessons to achieve level B2 of the CEFR.
